Yummy Fast Food: Potbelly

I'm the first one to admit I can be a snob at times when it comes to chain restaurants.  My natural instinct is to head to a food truck or a locally owned shop if I need to have fast and affordable food. Last month, I was invited by Potbelly  to sample their new flats menu and needless to say I was humbled by the experience. It was a warm spring evening and we were welcomed by the Frozen Raspberry Lemonade smoothie.  It was love at first smoothie! I envisioned downing several of these on a hot DC summer day! Being one of those weird people with an aversion to ice cream,  I love how this is made with raspberry sorbet. It makes it light, airy, and perfectly tart.

From there, we sampled the Flats Sandwiches, which are made with multi-grain flatbread.  I sampled A Wreck first which was made with my favorites: salami, turkey, roast beef, and melted Swiss cheese.  I had to remind myself not to eat the whole thing so I could move to the other sandwiches. I followed up with the Italian with all the Italian deli goodies I love: capicola, salami, mortadella, and melted Provolone. Although I was pretty full, I took a few bites of the guilt free Mediterranean, which is filled with cucumbers, red peppers, and hummus.  They were all yummy in their own right but if I had to pick one, it would be the Italian.

As I was sampling the Flats Sandwiches, the Popchips, and the freshly baked oatmeal cookies, I noticed the Potbelly Washington Handy DC Guide.  It's a really cute map which shows visitors are the key landmarks and of course, the Potbelly locations in DC. I thought that was a nice touch for a tourist on the go.

Overall, it was a great experience and I was impressed with the fact even a restaurant with 280 locations can find a way to tune the experience with the city with the fun maps. Needless to say, I will be coming back for more. Additionally, I was happy to receive a special shipment from Popchips who co-hosted the event. As I write this, I am snacking on the yummy sweet potato chips.  They are crisp, airy, and a light sweet taste. A great snack!
