Recap: Dine N Dash

Yesterday I had the pleasure to volunteer at Dine N Dash, an event created by chef Jose Andres in support of World Central Kitchen.  World Central Kitchen is a charitable organization which began in Haiti but now is expanding to other developing nations. The mission of the organization is to find sustainable solutions to end poverty. Projects include a sustainable bakery, culinary school, and food production. As a foodie, I love an organization which combines entrepreneurship, food, and sustainable living.

The Volunteers of DineNDash
Dine N Dash brought an amazing group of restaurants and food trucks together for this great cause such as BBQ Bus, The Partisan, Jaleo DC, Cuba Libre, Pepe, Poste, DC Empanadas, Red Hood Lobster Pound, SEI Restaurant, Menu MBK, Zaytinya, Proof, Oyamel, and Takorean. How it worked: guests purchased tickets via Living Social or the DineNDash website, then had access to all the restaurants and food trucks mentioned. Guests got to sample signature dishes and drinks between 6-10pm on Tuesday, June 10th. Those who purchased VIP tickets had the opportunity to take pedi cabs to all the participating restaurants. It's an amazing way to discover some of the best restaurants in DC and contribute to a great cause!

The Paella at Jaleo DC

I volunteered at the check-in table at Jaleo DC. It was my first time at the restaurant and loved its modern Spanish decor. Think lots of red, modern art, and wooden chandeliers lining the windows. As the live flamenco music played, guests were treated to a Sangria bar, hearty Spanish wines, a enormous paella pan with the most delicious paella I've had in the US, and a yummy selection of tapas.
Lovely Decor at Jaleo

When things died down, we had the opportunity to check out SEI next door. We sampled some fabulous cocktails with rum and pear and an amazing selection of sushi. We loved the decor as well, makes a perfect restaurant for date night or a special celebration. We wrapped up the night at Zaytinya where we had delicious hors d'oeuvres of lamb lettuce wraps and shrimp with garlic. Needless to say, I will be running tonight!
The Chefs at SEI
Overall, it was a great experience to be part of an organization which empowers people through food. I was also able to witness the generosity of these restaurants and their staffs which created these amazing spreads with all the proceeds going to World Central Kitchen.
Highlight of the Night: Meeting Jose Andres!
